Welcome to East Asia Integration Studies, a online portal initiated by the Hanns-Seidel Stiftung, Korea. For the latest news click here , for more information about this site please follow the 'read more' link as provided below. The Hanns-Seidel Stiftung (HSS) is working in the field of political education as it is founded as a political foundation. Its motive is “to serve democracy, peace and development”. The mission of the foundation varies among the countries which were chosen for continuous projects. So one aspect of the project in the Republic of Korea is to transfer knowledge about the recunification in Germany to Koreans - particularly to those near the demilitarized zone. Moreover, as the HSS has offices not only in the Republic of Korea, but also in China, Indonesia and on the Philippines, it shows particular interest in the development in East Asia and the economic integration in this region. On the basis of its work and its interests in the development of the region, the HSS has decided to introduce a discussion platform for researchers to open discussions and talks about the integration in east asia. Therefore this website offers a discussion function which will be monitored continuously and sustainably by the moderators of this website. Their intention is to keep the discussion list free from any spam or misuse. Further functions are a newsboard and pages to offer documents, articles and book reviews. Links to homepages concerning the topic of east asia integration studies as well as the about us category complete the offer. Subscribing to the East Asia Integration Studies newsletter is a feature to stay up to date with the developments on this page. For further information about the Hanns Seidel Stiftung look at: http://www.hss.de/english.html One Example of the local works from the Hanns Seidel Stiftung is the regional programme for the Integration into ASEAN with HQ in Singapore. Since 1987, Singapore has been the centre of operations for a regional project promoting the integratiion process of the ASEAN association. Prioority is given to provoding training to leading officials, politicians and leading academics, especially from the newer ASEAN member states such as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam, in order to reduce the region's socio-economic inequalities. Projects are also supported that establish transregional standards for education, agriculture, and the enviromental sector. The measures, which also include activities in Malaysia and Thailand, have influented many regional and national developement plans, improving living standards, thus contributing to the reducing of intra- and interregional developement inequalities. For more Information about this project please contact Mr. Karl-Peter Schönfisch via the E-mail form .
